Our company, established in 2000*, provides broad life sciences consulting particularly in the areas of Scouting and Business Development. Our Competencies and Professional Experience are summarized under "Experience".
We are experienced in the areas of due diligence on R&D proposals, Intellectual Property and Licensing from Academic centers (see "Services Offered") and the regulatory compliance requirements of Public Heath, Drinking Water and Aquaculture in New Zealand.
Our Business is primarily virtual in nature but following two decades in the NE USA now has a home base located in suburban Whangarei, New Zealand.

Formed by a husband and wife team of Dr's Robert & Jan Powell we bring to the table complimentary skill sets and experiences providing you with a breadth, depth and perspective not often seen.
Following completion of Ph.Ds and post-doctoral studies, both Rob and Jan spent time as academic scientists in Maryland, before expanding into corporate discovery research, technology identification and commercialization in Maryland and Massachusetts.
Rob originally trained as a Biochemist but also worked in Immunology, Virology and Vaccinology before leaving academic science to complete an MBA at Smith School of Business, University of Maryland. During this time he established service and reagent supply companies before moving to lead the technology identification, patenting and licensing operations for a mid-Atlantic Biotechnology University. He then spent 5 years serving as VP for a small Venture Capital company, COO for a clinical-stage biotech company, and COO for an early-stage consumer Ag-bio product company.
Jan received her PhD in environmental Microbiology, then held faculty positions in Infectious Disease and Epidemiology. After completing an MPH at The Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, she directed the Masters of Public Health program at the University of Maryland Baltimore. Subsequently she moved to the R&D arm of a multi-national Biopharmaceutical company in Boston. There she has extended her knowledge of R&D drug discovery, project management and pre-clinical development with a focus on rare-diseases. Jan is a certified facilitator of the 'Oz Principle' management programme that builds and implements a Culture of Accountability within corporate environments (www.ozprinciple.com).
In mid-2014 Rob and Jan returned to their home country of New Zealand and established their family home in Whangarei. Rob continues to actively consult while Jan takes on new contracts as and when an ongoing employment commitment allows. She continues to provide advice and act as a sounding board when and as required.
Most recently Jan has gained experience and training in New Zealand Public Health including drinking water (DipDWA),shellfish safety and Resource Consents.
*Prior to August 2017 we traded under the name "Powell Biotech Partners". The rebranding reflects our growing expertise with New Zealand's unique ecosystems, regulations and our appreciation of Kaitiakitanga.
